Ampact aims to be the nation’s leader in high-impact tutoring. The Director of Reading Corps will drive nationwide implementation of one of the country’s most impactful tutoring programs by leading training, coaching, and program implementation to transform literacy outcomes for students. Reporting to the Chief Learning Officer, this role offers the chance to shape the future of reading education and make a lasting difference for children across the country.
 
The Director of Reading Corps is a strategic thinker who is also practical. They easily translate research into actionable, easy-to-understand guidance for a wide range of audiences including school and district level staff, teachers, tutors, and non-educators. They apply problem solving and critical thinking skills to common implementation challenges. This is more than a leadership role—it’s a chance to leave a national imprint on scaling evidence-based reading tutoring. As the driving force behind one of the country’s most impactful tutoring initiatives, the Director will ensure every student has access to high-quality, evidence-based tutoring tailored to meet their individual needs.

Responsibilities

Program Model Implementation & Support 

  • Provide centralized training, coaching, and materials to AmeriCorps members, coaches, and in-state leaders to ensure fidelity to the Reading Corps model. 
  • Develop and update training content, program materials, and coaching standards in alignment with program updates and organizational strategy. 
  • Equip state leaders with tools, resources, and technical expertise to support effective program implementation and communicate the value of Reading Corps to partners and stakeholders. 

2. Research, Innovation & Continuous Improvement 

  • Serve as a liaison for research studies and program innovations, ensuring smooth communication and integration of findings into practice. 
  • Collect and analyze implementation data, feedback, and observation results to identify gaps, inform program improvements, and assess feasibility of new strategies. 
  • Monitor external policy, legislation, and education trends to strategically position Reading Corps within the national literacy and high-impact tutoring landscape. 

3. Data, Evaluation & Strategic Alignment 

  • Collaborate with leadership to establish national implementation targets and monitor trends across states. 
  • Support teams at all levels in using data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement. 
  • Contribute subject matter expertise to support revenue strategies, workforce development initiatives, and career pathway opportunities for members. 
  • Represent Reading Corps as a content expert at meetings, conferences, and events. 

Qualifications

Minimum Education 

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent, preferably in educational psychology, school psychology, special education, or education, or equivalent experience  

 

Minimum Experience 

  • 5 years relevant work experience in primary or secondary educational settings 
  • Strong background in reading intervention, high-dosage tutoring, instruction, and assessment, including strong understanding and implementation of the Science of Reading and data-based decision-making 
  • Experience collecting and analyzing educational data, using data to accelerate student achievement 
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people 
  • Experience facilitating adult learners through training, coaching, supervision, and observation 
  • Experience creating and delivering training and evaluating its effectiveness 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and manage internal and external relationships 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, characterized by proactive communication, the ability to build investment, delegate tasks, and positively influence others 
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills, including ability to structure tasks, establish priorities, and meet deadlines independently 
  • Display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to inquiries and needs of individuals internal and external to the organization 
  • Excellent judgement and decision-making ability, including negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. 
  • Demonstrated skills in systems-level thinking, able to frame, manage, and solve complex problems 
  • Strong analytical skills and commitment to data-based decision-making: in-depth experience managing complex sets of data and developing effective metrics to predict and identify trends, patterns, efficiencies, and effectiveness of Ampact programs
